The Faculty of Economics is looking to hire a Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow starting October 2022, although the starting date is negotiable. The current funding is guaranteed from the Leverhulme Trust.
We are looking for a candidate with an interest in interdisciplinary research and teaching straddling the fields of economics, engineering (control and dynamical systems) and neuroscience. The post is attached to Prof. Peter Bossaerts’ Leverhulme Trust International Professorship. The research aims at exploring and understanding human adaptability in the face of uncertainty. For this position, the successful candidate should be an expert in adaptive control, in particular model-reference based adaptive control (MRAC). Knowledge of economics is not a must, but familiarity with it is a plus, especially if this concerns decision-making under uncertainty. Alternatively, prior exposure to computational neuroscience, in particular reinforcement learning, is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to work on exploring MRAC as a framework to understand human decision-making under uncertainty, its neurobiological foundations, and related psychological and psychiatric phenomena. S/he is to aim to publish in high-impact academic journals. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the collegial and intellectual life of the Economics Faculty and help promote interdisciplinarity across campus.
Successful candidates who have been awarded their PhD and have shown prior work experience in the aforementioned areas will be employed on University Grade 7 for Research Associates, starting at £33,309-£40,927 per annum.
