Salary: Grade 8: £42,149 – £50,296 with a discretionary range to £54,943 per annum. With reduced responsibilities, this post can be offered as a grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 with a discretionary range to £44,706 per annum depending on experience

Applications are invited for a Mathematical Modeller to join the Centre for Tropical Medicine, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

You will be responsible for identifying, reviewing, and assess data sources in order to determine their relevance and utility for the project’s research questions. You will develop and apply new approaches for quantifying the health burden associated with substandard and falsified antimicrobials for selected pathogens. You will develop and apply new approaches for quantifying the impact of substandard and falsified antimicrobials on antimicrobial-resistance for selected pathogens. This will include creating, testing and documenting relevant computer code, and contribute to methodological advancements, identify and troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with internal and external collaborators. You will lead in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and present papers and posters.

It is essential that you hold a hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject, together with significant post qualification experience. You will have experience in at least one relevant area of computational biology (e.g. mathematical modelling, biostatistics, epidemiology). You will have an interest in application of computational biology to help counter public health problems and have the ability to program in at least one language (e.g. R, Julia, C, C++, or Python). You will have the ability to organise and prioritise work efficiently and work independently and ability to deliver results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule with limited guidance. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, including track record of success in writing for publication, presenting research proposals and results, representing research groups at meetings, working with collaborators and advising team members.
