This is an opportunity to be involved in a UK flagship project. The aim of this innovative and highly exciting, collaborative Pasture to Plate project is to maximise the food potential of UK pasture by using targeted chemical processing and novel biotechnology to convert grass into nutritious edible fractions for healthier and more affordable alternative foods, making UK agriculture more resilient and sustainable. Please refer to the Additional Information section for more details on the project.   The post holder will be one of two new Post Doc Researcher posts engaged by Harper Adams University on this project, who will play key roles in supporting the delivery of the project deliverables. This role is focused on tasks associated with an environmental survey and the lab-based chromatography analyses of food fractions, plants, and soils.  

To successfully fill this role, you will be able to work flexibly and support a broad range of activities based in office, lab, glasshouses and field environments.  Be highly organised, including strong planning and execution skills. A people person, both proactive and collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships whilst being a  pro-active individual, you will also be numerate and analytical, and have outstanding presentation skills

The main duties of the role include:

  1. Flexibly support research project staff.
  2. Lead on the timely delivery of Harper Adams’ project outputs.
  3. Conduct field and glasshouse trials and collect crop and crop environment data.
  4. Facilitate survey designs and focus group designs.
  5. Data analysis in a range of techniques including statistics.
  6. Use laboratory techniques (HPLC, ICP, and GC-MS) for nutrient analysis.
  7. Engage in and support communication of results to diverse stakeholders.
  8. All other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post and the salary of the grade.
