We are seeking a research associate for the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems in the School of Engineering.

The Opportunity:

This Research Associate position will contribute to the Centre for Electronic Frontiers (CEF) within the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems at the University of Edinburgh, which is funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering.

This position is affiliated with a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies held by Regius Chair of Engineering Prof Prodromakis, Director of CEF. The appointee will support the delivery of the vision of this 10-year programme that aspires developing Embedded AI Hardware solutions for Lifelong Learning applications.

The post will involve process development and characterisation of thin-film devices devices with varying inductance/capacitance with aim to demonstrate a working tuneable memory-impedance similar in principles with RRAM/memristive devices and possibly integrating the two in functional components.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • A PhD in Electronics or a related subject, or an undergraduate/master degree with previous relevant research experience.
  • Experience of developing process for semiconductor thin films and their translation into RRAM devices, from initial concept through to realisation.
  • Expertise in AC and DC characterisation techniques for RRAM technologies. 
  • Experience with PVD processes (sputtering and/or ALD and e-beam evaporation) as well as the ability to develop and troubleshoot recipes for these tools.
  • Capable of working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines or technical background, able to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
