Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Salary: Starting salary normally in the range £27,924 to £30,497, with potential progression once in post to £34,304.

Job Purpose and background:

The College of Arts and Law is home to a wide range of research disciplines that explore what it means to be human – in historical and cultural contexts, within ethical and legal norms and through languages and communication.

The College is committed to ensuring our academics have the support they need to enable, amplify, and evaluate the impact of this research. We are now recruiting for a Research Engagement & Impact Officer to join the College’s small but highly valued team that supports academic colleagues in the development, delivery and evaluation of research-led engagement and impact activity.

This is an exciting opportunity in which the post holder will work with academic and professional services staff towards strengthening the research environment for engaged and impactful research in two of the College’s five Schools, whilst also contributing to the delivery of the College’s wider Research, Engagement, and Impact strategy. This will involve developing strong working relationships with researchers in a wide range of contexts to provide expert guidance and logistical support in the development of impactful research-led projects and initiatives.

Skills and qualifications required:

Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification/experience), the post holder will have strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels, internally and externally, including academic and professional services staff and external stakeholders. The post holder will also be able to interpret, distil and articulate complex information clearly, and be confident in delivering this information within a range of contexts. 

With strong organisational skills, the post holder will be able to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines in a busy and demanding environment, whilst demonstrating a proactive approach and be confident working alone or as part of a wider team.

The post holder will have experience in working in a Higher Education research environment and an understanding of how research can benefit social, cultural, economic, political, and civic life. Knowledge of the wider Higher Education impact and engagement landscape, such as experience of working as part of REF2021, would also be desirable.
