The School of Art and Humanities at the University of Huddersfield is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified Research Fellow in Product /Industrial Design. The researcher will join a collaborative team between the University of Huddersfield and a private medical company, Paxman Coolers Ltd to assist in the development of sustainability practices in the design and development of medical products for Chemotherapy-Induced Alopecia.
The University has recently created a new Scalp Cooling Research Centre with Paxman, a major global healthcare technology company, which has a long-standing research history with the University, to benefit cancer sufferers. This five-year research and collaboration agreement covers a new multi-disciplinary research group based at the University. The Centre focuses on biological hair follicle research as well as developing innovative scalp cooling-related treatments and scalp cooling caps.
To support the project, we are looking for a flexible and experienced researcher who is keen to conduct high quality and impactful research with experience in:
- Experience in Human Centre Design for new Product Development
- Understand Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodology: Experience in working with the modern manufacturing techniques (e.g., lasers welding, adhesive bonding, ultrasonic / RF Welding, 3D Printing)
- Medical materials, devices, processes, regulatory requirements
As a Research Fellow you will be required to work with the Product Design team. You will have completed a PhD in an Industrial Design or related discipline and possess good mixed methods research skills with an ability in quantitative research techniques. You will be required to write regular reports and manuscripts for publication to a very high standard based on the work conducted.
