Job Title: Research & Innovation Impact Officer

Location: Llandaff Campus, Cardiff

Salary: Grade 6A/B, £35,326 – £39,739 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Tenure: Fixed term until 31/7/25

The opportunity

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to support our aspirations for, and growth in high-quality impactful research that contributes to Cardiff Met’s enhanced innovation and engagement activities and improves their societal impact.

This post will contribute to the ambitions of the University’s Strategic Plan 2022/23 – 2029/30, and preparations for REF2028. The post holder will report to the University’s Impact Manager and work closely with the University Director of Research and REF Manager to provide important operational support for the growth in, and quality of, Cardiff Met’s research, innovation, and impact activities.

Based in Research and Innovation Services (RIS), the post holder will collaborate with colleagues across the Unit as well as work closely with colleagues in academic Schools and professional services to provide support for ongoing and future impact-based initiatives.

You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.

What you’ll do – key duties

Work with the Impact Manager, Director of Research and REF Manager to develop and deliver Cardiff Met’s strategic plan as it relates to increasing impactful research activity across the University, and the potential this has for increased innovation, societal impact, and funding. 

Work closely with the Impact Manager, Director of Research, REF Manager, and School research staff to help support the identification, development, and delivery of impact case studies for REF2028 across all relevant Units of Assessment (UOA).

Provide analysis of sector best practice in impact activities, monitoring, evidencing and support.

Develop, implement and maintain systems and procedures to support the development of impact and innovation activities, including those associated with harnessing underpinning research to safeguard the quality and volume of impactful activity.

Develop a wide range of positive relationships, including with research support staff in Schools, colleagues in Library and Information Services, and where appropriate external stakeholders to support impact initiatives and activities across the University.

Provide advice and support to staff on the development and delivery of impact activities, including the preparation and writing of impact plans, and the evidencing and monitoring of impact.

Provide support for University and School impact audits.

Work with colleagues from across the University to identify, cohere, develop, and disseminate stories relating to research and innovation impacts and outputs.

Assist as required in the implementation and use of FigShare and the University’s Current Research Information System (CRIS) for recording and collating evidence of impact.

What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths

Experience of supporting staff to develop and evidence impactful research.

Experience of working in an outcome focused environment where performance against targets is essential.

Ability to take the initiative and achieve objectives.

Proven organisational, time management and administrative skills.

Proven effective presentation and communication skills (e.g., face-to-face, presentations, and workshop delivery).

Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information, both orally and in writing.
