We are looking for a Senior Lecturer specialising in Social Science Research Methods to work with the School’s Research Training Centre to lead a refresh of the pedagogy of social science research methods teaching and the way we deliver our School-wide postgraduate methods training courses.
You will redesign the established courses core to our MSc Social Research and which form the ESRC-approved training for our PhD candidates, as well as develop the new Advanced Methods Workshops that extend these core methodological skills; provide Programme Direction of our flagship MSc Social Research, and teach across School-wide methods courses and courses in the Social Policy subject area. You will also play a leading role in opening our methods training to students in other Schools, and outside the University. While teaching-focussed, the post includes time for research; development of funding bids and publication in peer-reviewed publications is expected.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD or equivalent, awarded by the time of appointment, except where exceptional experience can suffice as an equivalent;
- A thorough understanding of the most commonly used methods in social science, and an advanced understanding of appropriate specialist techniques;
- A proven track record in teaching leadership, in curriculum development, and in enhancement of the student experience, indicative of commitment to, and potential for, excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and in the development of new courses/programmes at postgraduate and undergraduate levels, ideally including online and distance learning;
- Evidence of having developed Social Science research and publications activities meeting standards of world-leading excellence.
