The Department of Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton invites applications for a (Senior) Teaching Fellowship post from candidates with proven experience in delivering high-quality education in a University setting, and broad knowledge of quantitative and/or mixed research methods.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching expertise can help us manage and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in research methods ( from the underlying principles of research to more advanced mixed/quantitative methodologies) to an interdisciplinary group of students from across different social science disciplines.
The post holder must have a PhD (or be close to completion), or an equivalent qualification in applied research methods, have an appropriate educational experience & qualification (for a Senior Teaching Fellow, as a minimum, Advance HE Fellowship / FHEA, PGCAP or equivalent), and be able to satisfy all the essential criteria detailed in the job description.
The salary can be offered at £34,304 – £38,578 (Level 4: Teaching Fellow) or £39,739 – £44,706 (Level 5: Senior Teaching Fellow), depending on experience and qualifications, pro rata if applicable.
The post-holder will be required to contribute to the teaching & supervision of undergraduate & postgraduate students in the department and in modules across the wider School of Economic, Social & Political Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate, develop and deliver a range of teaching modules; to liaise with colleagues in other Departments to ensure a smooth delivery of cross-disciplinary courses; to contribute to our continuing professional development programmes; and to carry out administrative duties within the Department and the wider Faculty of Social Sciences. For the position of Senior Teaching Fellow (L5) a strong research portfolio in the area of research methods, either theoretical or applied, would be an additional advantage.
The post is available on either a part-time or full-time basis, but the minimum is 0.8 fte. The post is available from 1 September 2022 and the successful candidate must be able to start not later than 1 January 2023. The post is permanent, subject to satisfactory completion of a two-year probationary period.
