Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Engineering, Energy Systems, Environmental Science, or related STEM field. One (1) or more years of experience in research, commercialization, or administrative support. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a relevant STEM or Business field. Experience with energy technology commercialization, grid innovation, or startup ecosystems. Familiarity with intellectual property, regulatory pathways, and public, private partnerships. Experience in public-facing programs or strategic outreach.



Brief Description of Duties:
The Innovation Commercialization Associate will play a pivotal role in advancing the commercialization of technologies developed within the AERTC, CEWIT, and GrIDD Centers, with a focus on grid modernization, clean energy, and resilience. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in technology transfer, licensing, startup development, and strategic outreach, while contributing to the center’s mission of accelerating innovation through public, private partnerships. Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.

  • Technology Commercialization:
    • Conduct market research and patent landscape analysis to assess the commercial viability of emerging grid and energy technologies
    • Assist in preparing materials for licensing and startup development, including executive summaries, pitch decks, and marketing briefs tailored to different audiences
    • Support the identification and evaluation of new inventions from AERTC, CEWIT, and GrIDD-affiliated researchers or prospective researchers, including facilitating invention disclosure submissions and the evaluation thereof with Intellectual Property Partners (IPP)
    • Collaborate with IPP and external partners to explore pathways for technology deployment, including licensing, startup formation, and joint development agreements.
    • Track commercialization progress and contribute to internal reporting and strategy refinement.

  • Strategic Outreach and Engagement:
    • Plan outreach activities such as innovation showcases, stakeholder briefings, and community engagement events that highlight AERTC, CEWIT, and GrIDD technologies and partnerships
    • Develop and update content for newsletters, social media, and relevant Innovation websites (e.g., AERTC, CEWIT, GrIDD, IPP) website to promote commercialization efforts and success stories
    • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, investors, and government stakeholders to support technology adoption and collaborative opportunities
    • Represent Innovation (e.g., AERTC, CEWIT, GrIDD, IPP) at internal and external meetings, conferences, and networking events

  • Professional Development and Collaboration:
    • Participate in cross-functional meetings with GrIDD, IPP, CEWIT, and AERTC to align commercialization efforts with broader strategic goals
    • Engage in training programs and mentorship opportunities to build expertise in technology transfer, innovation strategy, and stakeholder engagement
    • Contribute to strategic planning, including commercialization of roadmaps and impact metrics
    • Support improvements to internal workflows, databases, and tracking systems related to commercialization and outreach.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
