Job Description


The

The
Office of University Communications (OUC) at Boston College is seeking a highly
skilled and creative Director, Photography to join our in-house team, which is
responsible for all top-level news and marketing efforts for the University.
This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for University
Communications and provides support for senior leadership in the office’s news,
marketing, design/brand management, web, and magazine teams.



The
Director, Photography is responsible for scheduling, planning, executing, and
editing photo shoots that convey Boston College’s brand and messaging across
digital and print media, including our website, alumni magazine, faculty-staff
newspaper, online news site, social media, and marketing materials for the
University itself and its nine schools and colleges. The ideal candidate is
technically proficient, has a strong artistic eye, and can collaborate
effectively with both office teams and campus partners.

In
addition, the Director will supervise a Senior Photographer and oversee the use
of freelance talent where required.


Key
responsibilities
* Produce high-quality visual content
for multiple platforms. Content must align with brand guidelines, key
messages, and project goals.
* Oversee and provide program and
event coverage, portraits, and campus imagery, generally within a short
turnaround period.
* Collaborate with marketing, design,
and editorial teams on creative concepts and project requirements.
* Manage all aspects of a shoot,
including scouting locations and directing subjects where required.
* Editing photos using professional
software for quality assurance and to meet specific requirements.
* Oversee, organize, and maintain our
digital image database to ensure photographic assets are appropriately
categorized, tagged, archived, and accessible.
* Assemble and supply photographs
from the digital image database upon request.
* Ensure all visual content adheres
to brand and ethical standards.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $81,850 to $102,300; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.


  • 8 years of professional experience with a wide range of photography for both editorial and marketing use. Experience in a college or university setting is preferred but not required. Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Proven professional photography experience and technical expertise, demonstrated by a strong portfolio of portraiture, event coverage, and environmental work.


  • Advanced proficiency with photo editing software.

  • A creative eye for composition, lighting, and visual messaging.


  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and to deal diplomatically with project managers, senior leaders, campus partners and photography subjects.

  • Superior organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage/balance simultaneous projects and meet deadlines.


  • Ability to adapt swiftly to new situations, environments, and creative challenges.

  • Availability for some evening and weekend work, and for travel to local shoot locations, as required.
