Position Summary
The Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides strategic leadership and vision to advance teaching excellence, faculty development, and student learning outcomes across all academic programs. This senior leader fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement by facilitating collaboration among faculty, staff, and administrators.

The Executive Director ensures CTL initiatives align with the University’s strategic priorities, particularly in the areas of academic quality, assessment, and technology integration. This position leads institutional efforts to strengthen pedagogy, expand digital learning capacity, and promote student-centered teaching that drives academic success and institutional effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the CTL aligned with institutional goals and academic priorities.
  • Provide executive oversight for CTL programs, faculty development initiatives, and instructional innovation projects.
  • Establish sustainable structures to support ongoing teaching excellence and pedagogical innovation.

Institutional Collaboration


  • Partner with Academic Affairs, Deans, Department Chairs, and the Office of Assessment to align CTL efforts with curriculum redesign, accreditation, and student success initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology and Online Learning to enhance digital learning strategies, integrate educational technologies, and support faculty readiness for technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Build cross-campus partnerships to share best practices and strengthen institutional teaching and learning capacity.

Faculty, Staff, and Student Development

  • Lead professional development programs that enhance teaching effectiveness, innovation, and scholarly engagement.
  • Mentor and support CTL staff in implementing evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Cultivate a university-wide culture of collaboration, reflection, and continuous pedagogical growth.

Innovation and Assessment


  • Champion the integration of emerging technologies-including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and virtual learning tools-into curriculum and instruction.
  • Oversee data-informed strategies to enhance teaching quality and student learning outcomes.
  • Assess, evaluate, and report on CTL initiatives to ensure compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.

Operational Leadership

  • Manage CTL operations, staffing, and budgets in accordance with university policies and grant requirements.
  • Oversee program documentation, reporting, and assessment for institutional alignment and accountability.
  • Represent the CTL at internal and external forums focused on teaching and learning innovation.

External Relations and Sustainability


  • Identify and secure external funding opportunities to sustain and expand CTL initiatives.
  • Foster relationships with national organizations to enhance the University’s reputation for teaching excellence and innovation.


Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to advance the mission of the University and the CTL.

Required Qualifications


  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in higher education focused on faculty development, teaching and learning, or academic innovation.
  • Demonstrated success managing or directing grant-funded or federally supported initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of trends and best practices in pedagogy, instructional design, and educational technology.
  • Proven record of strategic planning, assessment, and organizational leadership.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and change-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a Center for Teaching and Learning or similar academic innovation unit.
  • Successful record of securing and managing federal or foundation grants (e.g., Title III, NSF, or comparable).
  • Experience incorporating AI, data analytics, or digital learning technologies into faculty development programs.
  • Evidence of scholarly contributions or publications related to teaching, learning, or faculty development.
