Job Description

Tennessee State University Office of Financial Aid invites
applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor.


Job
responsibilities:

  • Process verification for all files of assigned students
  • Counsel students according to alpha
    distribution
  • Counsel students on all aspects of financial aid processing, awards, state grants, loans, federal work-study,
    institutional scholarships, lottery scholarships, etc.
  • Assist students with the completion of FAFSA
  • Contact students as
    needed to assist in obtaining data needed for processing files
  • Reconcile over-awarded reports and resolve/adjust
    accounts
  • Reconcile various reports to ensure data accuracy and quality control
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Regulations
    with the assistance of reports and data analysis throughout the academic year
  • House academic verification/confirmation for students
    as requested
  • Assist with updating policies and procedures for related items
  • Coordinate Financial Aid portion of the New
    Student Orientation Workshops and all other campus outreach activities
  • Attend on and off-campus events for training as a financial
    aid representative
  • Greet students, parents, and visitors and evaluate needs when assisting at the front desk including completion of
    forms, completion of entrance counseling, promissory notes, and the FAFSA
  • Assist students and parents via email and
    telephone
  • Respond to phone calls and email in a timely manner
  • Assist in managing the financial aid mailbox
  • Complete
    other duties as assigned
  • Additional hours may be required during peak times
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


Requires Baccalaureate degree in an appropriate field of study and a minimum of one year
of experience related to the above duties. Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service and public relations skills.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations. Must be able to use computer programs such as MicroSoft Word and Excel. Banner software
experience highly desirable.
