Manager, Strategic Business Development


Job Summary:

Subject to Budgetary Approval
As a member of FDUV’s management team, this position provides leadership and expertise to the university in developing and executing its external initiatives, primarily industry engagement and government relations. Reporting to the Executive Director, Operations, and collaborating closely with stakeholders within the university, the manager provides the vision, leadership, and management needed to ensure the sustained growth partnerships leading to growth in student enrollment, brand awareness, and revenue generation activities. The Manager, Strategic Business Development will:

  • Identify and qualify opportunities for the university to gain a competitive edge in all aspects of revenue generation.
  • Establish an on-going service-oriented relationship with business and industry clients to maximize revenue generation.
  • Develop individual program and sectoral specific marketing activities to facilitate enrollment and industry services, for example through articulation agreements.
  • Manage industry relationships for the WIL team and lead the prospecting of potential internship opportunities for students.
  • Manage the School’s overall sectoral business and industry relations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:


1. Business Development


  • Cultivates and nurtures relationships with the business community, organizations, industry, other post-secondary institutions, and community clients to assist them in identifying training needs that will be beneficial to their environment and will increase revenue for the Institution.
  • Research and communicates external, government, and internal funding opportunities.
  • Works with program areas to seek out new product development opportunities.
  • Identifies opportunities for customized training, joint ventures, and partnerships with the public and private sectors.
  • Works with other post-secondary institutions to market the university’s programs, develop partnerships, and negotiate agreements. This includes articulation agreements as well as pathway agreements such as 2+2 programs.
  • Collaborates with Career Services to execute engagement strategies for the employer market and introduce employer partners to FDUV’s diverse talent pool, facilitating direct recruitment connections.
  • Sources and works with industry partners to provide internship opportunities for our students.
  • Develops and manages a strategy, which includes conducting thorough market research and analysis to determine effective and realistic sales and revenue targets and opportunities for new program development.
  • Works with Marketing and Communications and Student Services (including Career Services) in planning and coordinating special events and other publicity initiatives related to the university’s training, programs, and Industry Services activity. Participates in career fairs when necessary.
  • Promotes, establishes, and maintains an effective liaison with relevant industries, professional groups and associations, government agencies, institutes, schools, etc.


2. Leadership

  • Establishes strong working relationships with FDUV’s programs and departments to achieve both broad and targeted goals around partnerships while facilitating the achievement of educational and business objectives.
  • Provides direction and leadership in conjunction with the COO to assigned university staff and other employees involved in this area.


3. Administrative

  • Develops, manages, and maintains a client database with current contact information.
  • Develops and maintains current knowledge of FDU and FDUV programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages the revenue milestones in relation to deliverables and net-return targets.
  • Develops and presents business plans to support new program initiatives.
  • Works with the development office to implement school fundraising initiatives.
  • Keeps abreast of trends in this market to ensure that FDUV can take advantage of emerging strategic opportunities.
  • Keeps abreast of the political, economic, social, and educational trends that influence the effective implementation and ongoing success of FDUV’s strategies.
  • Conducts due diligence in terms of analysis and impacts prior to making recommendations on strategies and policies.
  • Participates in professional organizations that enhance personal and professional development as it specifically relates to this field.


4. Performs other special assignments as directed.
