Job Overview

The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences (DEPHS), a world-renowned institution for environmental health and public health research, is seeking an individual whose work has a strong affinity towards community outreach, health education, and environmental public health.


This CEC program manager position serves as a community engagement specialist for the Community Engagement Core (CEC) of the Center for Collaboration on Climate & Community for Health (C4H) and supports the mission of the Center. The C4Health is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and is housed in the University of Cincinnati-College of Medicine, Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences. The successful candidate will engage with local community members and organizations and have a strong comfort level communicating exposure science and climate health information to the public and being the liaison between CEC, C4H members and researchers, and the lay community. The individual will report directly to the co-directors of the CEC and be responsive to guidance from the C4Health directors and core/project directors. The individual will serve as the point of contact for community members, advisory committees, and outreach personnel from other centers and projects. This position works closely and collaboratively with the C4Health program coordinator.

Essential Functions


  • Translate and disseminate Center research into environmental and climate public health knowledge for target audiences (community members, health care professionals, policy makers, etc.) in order to increase awareness and understanding of climate health.
  • Advance community engagement through different models in climate health, implementing citizen science practices, novel communication approaches and data disclosure.
  • Create and maintain CEC web page content and social media channels.
  • Foster multidirectional partnerships among C4Health scientists and our target audiences.
  • Develop strong cross-Center collaboration with other Centers to address community-identified emerging climate issues.
  • Organize Climate Cafes, grow and maintain the CEC Community Advisory Board (CAB), advance the partnership with the Cincinnati Museum Center, and develop other community engagement opportunities.
  • Organize CEC and CAB meetings, manage students engaged in community-centered climate health research, events, and projects.
  • Aid with center and CEC research project development and outreach.
  • Perform related duties based on programmatic need, some travel (such as attending the CEC/P20 annual conference), weekends, and weeknights may be expected.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience


Three (3) years of relevant experience experience in areas related to environmental health science, climate health, health education, and/or public health.

Additional Qualifications Considered


  • Master’s degree in areas related to public health, health education, environmental health science, and/or climate health; familiarity with community/citizen engagement and outreach.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proven organizational and networking skills, enthusiasm, energy and passion for environmental health, and the ability to use PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Social Media, and other communication tools.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
